Walk Prudently When You Go To The House Of God

Life And Death Are In The Power Of The Tongue

ECCLESIASTES 5:1-2
“Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil. Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.
”‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭5:1-2‬ ‭NKJV‬

When it comes to promises, we should understand that a promise is a commitment. Once we have made a promise, we are under obligation to keep it.
Surely my brethren, we really should be wise, particularly when we make a promise to God.
“”When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God what you have promised with your mouth.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭23:21-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
When one makes a vow or promise to God, even through songs of praise, worship, and prayer, God commands us to fulfil and shall hold him or her to every word.
We must understand that it is not only foolish, but also is a sin to make a vow and not keep it. When we shout “Amen” to the prayers and statements of others, we are announcing our agreement and their words become our vows.
Therefore my beloved, be careful what you promise, it's much better to not make a promise, than to find yourself in a position where you cannot fulfil, for one’s word is his bond.
My brethren, be quick to listen and slow to speak before committing yourselves into anything; run all your plans before God before starting, and don't make rash promises.
Breaking such promises seriously hinders your relationship with God, your friends, your reputation, and the reputation of the church.
Furthermore, it opens doors to the devil to attack your life or even demonise you.
What we say has profound effect, for every word is either a blessing or a curse. Indeed, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Word spoken curses whether by speaking over one’s self or others are real and have the power to destroy one’s life if the curse is not broken.
With this in mind, we can see the real dangers of gossip.
Once spoken, whilst we can apologise and repent, and even break the curses we caused, we cannot unsay a single word.
The damage is done! Relationships come crashing down and the devil is celebrating.
Their is a fine line between discussing someone’s life for the purpose of helping them go forward and just talking about them for something to do.
Of course, at times, we may have to discuss someone’s situations or behaviours in order to help, discipline, correct, or even protect others, but that isn’t a license to publicly humiliate and destroy them. We must be able to trust one another with confidence.
Personal and private conversations must be kept private, and even confessions must be brought with wisdom.
Confession to the whole world is neither wise nor necessary. It gives the devil a rod to beat you with.
Confession is very necessary for salvation and breaks the chains of the devil, but must be done wisely within the church to trustworthy people.
My beloved, many say, “women shouldn’t teach, preach, or become leaders.” But the truth is, nor should men, for “I (we) have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
We Spirit filled believers all have a choice to walk in the Spirit, or by the lust of the flesh (GALATIANS 5:16-26).
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
It is no longer men that teach and preach, as in Old Testament times, but Christ who does it all if you allow.
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭26‬-‭29‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Therefore, since the disciplining of the tongue is such a problem, “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
‭‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we must be seen as different; we must stand out from the crowd by our actions and honour all our promises. By doing so, we build our reputations, the reputation of the church, draw others to the faith, and honor our Almighty God; we shine for Christ and bring Glory to His holy name.
But having said all this, walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.
Be certain that you do not become victim to the curses they speak.
Glory be to God forever and ever! Amen.
