PSALM 59:16-17
“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defence And refuge in the day of my trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.

David, throughout this psalm, describes in great detail, the awful behaviour of his enemies. He knew that king Saul had sent a murder squad to literally track him and kill him.
He conveyed his own feelings of dread, with the desperation and despair of that which he sees in the lives of his enemies.
How delightful then, is it to read in these verses about God’s role in David’s life as a refuge?
He was David’s place of safety and a confident source of future hope that comes from the unfailing love of God.
He didn’t allow fear of those who wanted to harm him hold him down, but rather, he sang of God’s power and mercy-he sang praises to God for it was God Himself who was his unbeatable defence.
David had learned through his faith, to turn negative circumstances into reminders of God’s faithfulness and presence, His mercy, love, and protection.
I encourage you, whatever grim circumstances and stresses you are facing in your life today, they can be transformed if you simply made them a startling point for praising God.
He can be for you, like He was for David, your unbeatable defence, your refuge in the day of trouble. All you need do is believe.
The truth is, nothing is impossible with God (LUKE 18:27; MATHEW 19:26). “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Furthermore, that includes the impossible situation you are facing right now.
Truly I tell you, ““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NKJV
Psalm 59 was a call of deliverance from David’s physical enemies, but today in our lives, it is a plea for deliverance from the real enemy, Satan and his army of evil beings of the spiritual realms, who are the source of our troubles and tribulations today.
We believers face these attacks one after another to teach us patience and perseverance that we grow into maturity, perfect and complete, needing nothing (JAMES 1:2-4).
Therefore my “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.”
I Peter 4:12-16 NKJV
These demonic entities attack our very soul, our minds, will, and emotions, whispering negativity and temptations that can draw us into despair and sinful thoughts and behaviours that let them into your life.
Once in, like squatters, they make your body their home. Furthermore, they enter through the sins of our ancestors and many people are born demonised into a life of torment (EXODUS 34:7).
Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10 NKJV
These demons bring anxiety and fear, depression, nightmares, suicidal thoughts, addictions and all kinds of sicknesses and infirmities and even cancers from within.they destroy your relationships, careers, and finances. They pull us into repetitive sin.
Paul put it like this; “At one time I lived without understanding the law. But when I learned the command not to covet, for instance, the power of sin came to life, and I died. So I discovered that the law’s commands, which were supposed to bring life, brought spiritual death instead. Sin took advantage of those commands and deceived me; it used the commands to kill me. But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy and right and good. But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes. So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.”
Romans 7:9-21, 23 NLT
But we believers are truly blessed, for “the father will die for his many sins—for being cruel, robbing people, and doing what was clearly wrong among his people. “‘What?’ you ask. ‘Doesn’t the child pay for the parent’s sins?’ No! For if the child does what is just and right and keeps my decrees, that child will surely live. The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.”
Ezekiel 18:18-20 NLT
Therefore, even though generational curses inflict the children, for they enter this world with a sinful nature. There is hope of deliverance through faith, even to those born into the families of unbelievers.
Not by works, but by faith in Jesus Christ, for without faith it is impossible to please God (HEBREWS 11:6).
Paul said, “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.”
Romans 7:24-25 NLT
My beloved, because of what Jesus has done, these demonic entities are subject to all Spirit filled believers in Jesus name (LUKE 10:17).
James said, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
James 4:7-10 NKJV
If you are struggling with recurring sin, pornography, addictions, nightmares, anxiety/ depression, sicknesses and such as these, call upon the name of the Lord and He will deliver you (JEOL 2:32).
Therefore speak this Psalm over yourself as your heart felt prayer, sing praise and believe on the faithfulness of God.
“Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; Defend me from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, And save me from bloodthirsty men. For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord. They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine. Awake to help me, and behold! You therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah At evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. Indeed, they belch with their mouth; Swords are in their lips; For they say, “Who hears?” But You, O Lord, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision. I will wait for You, O You his Strength; For God is my defense. My God of mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies. Do not slay them, lest my people forget; Scatter them by Your power, And bring them down, O Lord our shield. For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride, And for the cursing and lying which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them, That they may not be; And let them know that God rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth. Selah And at evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. They wander up and down for food, And howl if they are not satisfied. But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.”
Psalms 59:1-17 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
