JOSHUA 1:6-8
“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Many believe that success and prosperity comes from a relentless desire to get ahead, power from money and status, and friends of influence; and the truth is it seems to work for many. But is it right and is the success long-term?
The strategy that God taught Joshua goes against such worldly criteria. He told Joshua he must be strong and courageous, because the task ahead was not going to be easy, and not ruthless, without concern for others.
He told Joshua and you today to meditate on God’s Law, that you, like him would observe to do all according to that what is written in it.
God’s Word actively breaks curses, heals, and brings positive change into people’s lives. It is the antidote to the devil. In it is the answer to every situation we face.
It cannot fail because: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:1-5 NKJV
My brethren, many businesses and jobs are under threat in the current financial climate, financial systems are breaking, and many families are finding it difficult to put food on the table, pay their mortgages’s or rent and meet their basic financial commitments.
But that is not an excuse to cheat or become disobedient to God’s word, and is it an excuse to half heartedly do your work.
Nor is the current financial climate an excuse to ruthlessly fire your staff or cut wages unnecessarily.
But what does God’s Word say?
“Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:22-24 NKJV
And “Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.”
Colossians 4:1 NKJV
My brethren, I encourage you that God is faithful to provide regardless of what is going on in the world.
Even though our human rights seem to be systematically taken away and world peace is crumbling, God is firmly in control and we need to put our trust in Him.
Maybe long-term change will come in your career or workplace; your income may reduce, or maybe you found yourself without work; life may seem to be a struggle, but we all need to be strong and courageous in this battle.
My beloved, even though our emotions may be overwhelmed, we have no reason to involve in violence or lawlessness.
Of course we can stand for what is right and hold our governments to account; that may involve in peaceful demonstrations, but it does not mean violence, lawlessness , or criminal damage.
But the truth is, the battle belongs to the Lord and our fight should be on our knees.
Prayer is our weapon of mass destruction against the real enemy, the devil.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
Ephesians 6:12-18 NKJV
My brethren, I encourage you, no matter how dark this world becomes, Jesus has already made a way for you; it is a righteous way; a way that shall bring glory to His Holy Name.
“Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:30-34 NKJV
My brethren, jobs and businesses may well be lost, the cost of living may be rising, persecution may be getting worse, and it may feel like you’re not successful by worldly standards and that you are being crushed by the worldly people around you; we believers can expect that in these last days.
Don’t be offended by those disrespecting colleagues in the workplace, and as much as you can, don’t fight with your neighbours, but rather bless them.
Jesus said, ““But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.”
Luke 6:27-31 NKJV
Therefore my beloved, “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you.”
Proverbs 25:21-22 NKJV
But the truth is, regardless of the things of this world, you already have the victory through Christ who is your strength (1 CORINTHIANS 15:57).
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:31-39 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
