Jesus, on this particular evening, summed up all He had told them, tying together themes from 14:27-30, 16:1-4, and 16:8-11.
With these words, despite the inevitable troubles they would encounter, they would not be left to face them alone.
Jesus words are an encouragement for us today, particularly as we face the troubling times of this world. Not just the pestilence that came upon the earth, the fret of wars, high interest rates, but the entire monetary systems and financial markets are collapsing.
Our jobs and businesses are seriously under threat, and many will close. But the truth is, Jesus has not left us to face this alone and the ultimate victory has already been won.
As Isaiah told us, “He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:3-5 NKJV
My beloved, by remembering we already have the victory through Christ, and that actually, He causes all things to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them (ROMANS 8:28), we can claim the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, and it shall guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).
For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” Says the LORD of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch. But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves. You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this, ” Says the LORD of hosts.”
Malachi 4:1-3 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
