COLOSSIANS 1:13-14
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
”Colossians 1:13-14 NKJV

We are all sinners in need of a Saviour; “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
I John 1:8-10 NKJV
Sin placed us firmly into the hands of the devil and his power of darkness. But however, God sent His only begotten Son to set us free from the consequences of sin and eternal death (JOHN 3:16).
The Colossians feared the unseen powers of darkness, that give authority to the devil and his evil army of unclean spirits and demons to enter us and take possession or demonise and control us. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
Ephesians 6:12-20 NKJV
Many believers say, that a Spirit filled believer cannot be possessed because possession is ownership, and the Holy Spirit does not share space with the devil.
But the truth is, possession is not ownership; if a person steal your car, he has possession, but he doesn’t own it. When caught, the thief is removed and the vehicle is returned to its rightful owner.
Furthermore, if a squatter enters a empty house, it takes a court order from a judge to evict him.
Demons are like squatters that invade areas in rooms in one’s body. Sin lets them in, and it needs the ultimate Judge to evict them.
When one receives the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit joins/ testifies to his spirit (ROMANS 8:16-39), not the sinful flesh, but manifest through the flesh to do good works and produce good fruits (GALATIANS 5:16-26nkjv).
When you receive the gift of the Spirit you are eternally saved and He will never leave you (JOHN 14:15-18), for “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV
When that person commits sin, the Holy Spirit retreats from the flesh and the soul, which is our mind, will, and emotions until the sin is dealt with through repentance.
It feels like God has actually left us, but He hasn’t, He is simply standing back to allow that person to exercise his or her free will to operate in sin that opens the door and gives authority to the demons to enter the flesh and influence him through the soul.
Furthermore, these demons enter through the sins of our ancestors (EXODUS 20:4-5), and many are born demonised.
But however, it is very encouraging to know, that even though we believers will slip back into sin at times, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:1-2 NKJV
Jesus did not come to condemn, He came to save, but He convicts His people to change their behaviour over time from within, until they come to the likeness of Christ who never sinned (ROMANS 8:29).
It is a transformation by the renewing of one’s mind, that we become to understand what is that good, and that acceptable, and the perfect will of God (ROMANS 12:1-2).
Paul tells us that Jesus delivered us believers from the powers of darkness, from slavery to freedom, from guilt to forgiveness, from the power of Satan, to the power of God. We have been rescued from a rebel kingdom, to serve the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (REVELATION 19:16; DEUTERONOMY 10:17; PSALM 136:3; DANIEL 2:47).
For Jesus by His own blood, set the captives free, and who the Son sets free is free indeed (JOHN 8:36). “And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.”
Joel 2:32 NKJV
But if we are rescued from the power of sin, surely our behaviour must reflect our new lives in Christ.
We cannot continue to live in sin, that from which Christ has rescued us.
To continue in sin separates us from God and legally allows the devil back into our lives and hold us in bondage. Furthermore, we have a sinful nature-a natural inclination toward sin which is impossible to overcome in our own power.
Thank God for His Holy Spirit, our helper who has come to lead us in righteousness. He will be with you, and later will be in you; He will never leave you. (JOHN 14:15-18).
He gives us the desires to do what pleases Him and the power to do it (PHILIPPIANS 2:13).
But having said that, He does not take away one’s free will, and therefore we must cooperate and walk in the Spirit putting the lust of the flesh to death.
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
Galatians 5:16-26 NKJV
Do you hear voices from within? Do you do things you know are wrong or struggle to do what you know needs to be done? Do you struggle with repetitive sin? Are you struggling with addiction or mental or long term health issues? Do you suffer from anxiety/ depression, or rage or thoughts of suicide? Do you struggle with nightmares or insomnia? If you struggle with any of these, you may need deliverance from such evils.
My brethren, call upon the name of the Lord and you shall be delivered (JEOL 2:32).
Even Paul himself struggled in certain areas of his life, finding himself doing what was wrong, and not doing what was right (ROMANS 7:13-23), being a slave to sin. No one is exempt! The truth is, if one slips back into sin, he shall let the devil in.
But Paul said, “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.”
Romans 7:24-25 NKJV
My beloved, don’t suffer at the hands of the devil, get the help you need through a deliverance ministry.
You don’t have to live a life of torment. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
James 4:7-10 NKJV
