“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Jesus told us, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
John 14:15-18 NKJV
We believers, when committing our lives to Christ, shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, to help us, and empower us to do what is right l, and serve God accordingly.
The "power" we receive from the Spirit includes help, courage, boldness, confidence, insight, ability, and authority.
Just as the disciples needed all these gifts to fulfil their mission, we need all these gifts to fulfil ours.
Jesus had given instruction to His disciples to witness to people about Him (MATHEW 28:19-20). But they were told to first wait for the Holy Spirit (LUKE 24:49).
God has important work for us to do for Him, but we cannot do it not in our own strength, but only by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We want to get on with the job, but we cannot efficiently go ahead of Him. Waiting allows God to prepare the way and in His timing, fulfil His plans through His people; therefore patience is essential.
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31 NKJV
The gift of the Spirit is an essential part of our Salvation; “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
II Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV
My brethren, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV
Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit or are you still caught up in the things of this world?
My brethren, ““No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
Having received the gift of the Spirit, are you listening for God's complete instructions, or are you running ahead with your own goals without really listening?
To be truly effective in God’s work we need to listen and walk in the leading power of the Holy Spirit, being patient to wait for His perfect timing.
It’s not easy, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
Galatians 5:17-26 NKJV
The Good News was to spread, geographically, from Jerusalem, into Judea and Samaria, and to all the ends of the earth.
It would begin with the devout Jews in Jerusalem and Samaria, spread to the mixed race in Samaria, and finally, be offered to the Gentiles all over the world.
The Good news is close to reaching it's final completion when everyone in every nation all around the world would of heard the name of Jesus Christ. When it does, the end will come (MATHEW 24:14).
Is there someone in your family, your work place, your school, or community who hasn't heard the Good News of Jesus Christ?
We Spirit filled believers must seek opportunity and make sure that we are contributing in some way to the ever widening circle of God's loving message.
Therefore, my beloved, “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
Matthew 10:5-8 NKJV
