2 TIMOTHY 1:6-7
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Timothy had received his spiritual gifts by prophecy when the elders laid their hands on him and set him aside for ministry (1 TIMOTHY 4:14). Just as in those days of old, God gives us spiritual gifts today, often by prophecy and the laying on of hands to build the body of Christ and do the Lord’s work (see 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-31).
Timothy faced great opposition, both to his message and to himself as a leader. His youth, leadership, and association with Paul had come under fire from both believers and nonbelievers alike, but Paul encouraged him to be bold.
It is easy to find fault in others, and often people will try to intimidate us to dampen our gifts, sometimes out of jealousy or simply because they have decided that your gift isn’t from God; Indeed, their are many reasons, but whatever the reason, if we allow people to intimidate us, we neutralise our effectiveness for God and our confidence will take a serious blow.
But the truth is, It really doesn’t matter what people think or say, it is what God says that counts.
The Holy Spirit who abides in all His people, is ready and willing to help (JOHN 14:15-18).
All one needs to do is ask. He can and will empower us to overcome our fears of what some might say or do to us so that we can boldly do God’s work with confidence.
Paul mentions three characteristics of the effective Christian leader. Power, love, and self-discipline. These are all available to us through the Holy Spirit. By following His leading day by day, regardless of what others might say, think, or do, your life will exhibit the fruits of the Holy Spirit. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (GALATIANS 5:23-24).
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
