JAMES 1:21-25
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
”James 1:21-25 NKJV

V
Gaining knowledge of God’s word is good, but unless we do what it says we are simply waisting our time.
The effects of our bible study time can be summed up by the effects it has on our behaviour.
God’s Law is perfect, and unlike any other laws or rules that naturally restrict us, God’s Law gives us freedom.
It exposes our true sinful condition and gives us opportunity to ask God for forgiveness (see ROMANS 7:7-8).
But however, we need more than knowledge, we need true understanding that can only come from God.
Man has many doctrines, but it’s the truth that sets you free (JOHN 8:32).
My beloved, as we submit to God and take in His Word, it gets on with the work of changing the way we think.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
But if God’s word is going to change the way you think, the way you live, and bring lasting peace into your life, you must first turn from your sinful lives toward God in repentance.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
This is not something we can do in our own abilities, power or strength, indeed, in our own capacity we don’t know even the direction in which we are to go.
But we are blessed, for Jesus said, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
John 14:15-18 NKJV
My beloved, our Father in heaven has sent His Holy Spirit to help, lead, and guide us all the way.
He will be with you at first, then in you, and Jesus said, I will never leave you orphans.
My beloved, He gives us not just the desire to do what pleases Him, but the power to do it.
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
Philippians 2:12-16 NKJV
We humans have the freedom to live our lives as God created us to live or not. He does not take away our free will. But you can be certain that their will be consequences for our actions, both good and evil.
If you are asking God to accept you into His kingdom, but choose to continue to involve in sexual immorality, adultery, pornography, stealing, lying, cheating, or hold on to pride and selfish ambitions, no matter how much you love God, you are not going to receive the gift of life.
Sin not only separates us from God and invalidates our protection, it brings us into alignment with the devil and gives him authority over our lives.
But true repentance is the first step to freedom and life everlasting.
But “”No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
We believers are called to total submission to God, to put our trust in Him and live our lives by faith.
The truth is, without faith it is impossible to please God.
But by faith, we walk in Christ righteousness, not our own, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and life everlasting. He will lead us in all truth (JOHN 16:13), and is the guarantee of our salvation (EPHESIANS 1:14; 2 CORINTHIANS 1:21-22).
Our salvation is sealed, and even when we make mistakes or slip back, we may face difficult consequences, but our salvation is secure. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:1-2 NKJV
But many put their trust in money, good works, and being nice.
Whilst some of these things are good, they cannot purchase salvation.
Money may or may not give you a nice life style today, but without Christ it is the best you shall ever have.
Jesus said, “”I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’ ””
Revelation 3:15-22 NKJV
We cannot live for Christ and the world, repentance and faith are conditions of salvation.
Righteousness is not based on human standards, but Gods, and He is always right.
If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
James 1:21-27 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
