PSALM 119 is both the longest Psalm and longest chapter in the bible. It was written as a repetitive meditation on the beauty of God's Word, and how it helps us to stay pure and grow in faith, possibly written by Ezra after the Temple was rebuilt (EZRA 6:14-15).
Psalm 119 has 22 sections, each corresponding to a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet and each verse beginning with the letter of it's section.
God's Word is mentioned in almost every verse. Such repetition was common in the Hebrew culture. People didn't have personal copies of the Scriptures to read, so God's people memorized His Word and passed it along orally. The structure of this Psalm allowed easy memoization.
God's Word, the bible, is the only guide for living a pure life. “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”
Romans 15:4 NKJV
We believers need to make time to read the bible regularly, and understand what God is telling us, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV
The bible is about 95% of what God is saying to us. We must make time to read it, meditate on it and learn it; then put into practice everything we have learned from it.
Truly, as you come to understand the most inner thoughts and intents of your heart, which is by the way, deceitful and desperately wicked (JEREMIAH 17:9), change will come, your faith will grow, and the joy and peace of living in Christ will be with you always.
But God’s word cannot bring change unless you take it in and digest it, nor can one be obedient to it without understanding it.
Ignorance is not an excuse and we shall all be held accountable; their is always consequences for our actions, both good and evil.
My brethren, make time for God; build your relationship with Him in private; study His Word, and give Him all the glory. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV
My beloved put your trust in Him, ““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. “As a partridge that broods but does not hatch, So is he who gets riches, but not by right; It will leave him in the midst of his days, And at his end he will be a fool.” A glorious high throne from the beginning Is the place of our sanctuary. O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters.””
Jeremiah 17:7-13 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
