Teach Me To Do Your Will, For You Are My God

Who Is Control, You Or Your Flesh

PSALM 143:10
“Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.
”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭143:10‬ ‭NKJV‬

We all have our own ideas and plans, but so often those ideas and plans clash with what God has planned for us.
David’s prayer is an example for us to follow.
We cannot serve God by chasing our own desires and plans unless they are inline with God’s plans.
But whilst, “There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
A prayer for guidance is self-cantered if we are going to pray against His plans and purposes.
That would be rebellious.
The devil is very quick to give you ideas that take you off of God’s paths, filling your hearts with promises of blessings and success that seem good, only to fool you into going the wrong direction.
To go in any direction other than God’s is sin and satisfies only the flesh.
But those who walk in the Spirit, walk in Christ righteousness and shall produce fruits pleasing to God.
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬-‭26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
My beloved, we humans are made up of three parts, spirit, soul, and flesh.
When we become Christian, God’s Spirit joins with our spirit, and “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Having received the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are saved, for “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
But for Jesus to be King of kings in our lives, one must make his spirit king, his soul, that is his mind, will and emotions, servant to the king and not the flesh and its lust, but rather, make his flesh, slave to the king, to become a vessel of the Holy Spirit (1 CORINTHIANS 6:19).
The devil comes through the flesh to influence our desires, cravings, decisions, and responses, to take us the wrong way. He brings thoughts and temptations and draws toward sin, stirring up the lust of the flesh.
Furthermore, he whispers negative thoughts that un-settle us and bring fear and torment.
Like the fake news media, his whispers are aimed at our emotions that we believe his lies.
Therefore, we must put to death the old man and take on the nature of Christ, who did not do the will of His flesh, but that of His Father in heaven (JOHN 6:38).
The Spirit gives us not just the desire to do what pleases God, but the power to do it (PHILIPPIANS 2:13).
But sin separates us from God, that He retreats from our souls and remains silent within our spirit.
It feels like we are alone in the wilderness, that God has abandoned us, and the devil will push those negative thoughts through our emotions that we believe it.
But the truth is, that even in sin, He never leaves us orphans (JOHN 14:15-18).
For “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
But that separation is real and opens the door to the devil to enter and reside within the flesh and take possession of areas of one’s life.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
To submit to God, is repent and turn again toward Him, and being obedient to Him. It is to change one’s thinking, to become Christ like in our nature.
To rebuke the devil, is to verbally call Him out, and then he shall flee from you.
Therefore, put to death the lust of the flesh and put on the nature of Christ and do as the Spirit leads.
Take every thought captive and bring them to the obedience of Christ. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
‭‭II Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭3‬-‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Don’t give way to the whispers of the devil, nor his temptations, and evil desires, but give them to God who shall make away of escape from such things (1 CORINTHIANS 10:13).
There comes a time in life when we have to make a decision. It’s God’s way or our way. We cannot do both, double mindedness does not work (JAMES 1:8).
Don’t be like Jonah, he tried to go in the opposite direction to what God sent him.
He, after facing the waves of the storm that God brought upon him, found himself in the belly of a giant fish for three days and three nights (JONAH 1:1-17) and after all that, being spat out on a beach, was again commanded to go where he was originally told to go in the first place with Gods message (JONAH 3:1-3).
You cannot change Gods plans in your life, but why would you want to?
His plans for your life are perfect and good and for the eternal future.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
