JOHN 5:2-8
“Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

These verses are talking about the pool of Bethesda, and in certain seasons, who ever stepped in the pool first, would be healed of what ever disease he suffered from.
When Jesus approached this man, he showed him and us today that we don’t need people or special pools or powers of this world to bring healing, all we need is Jesus.
Today, because of what Jesus has done, who ever regardless of past sin, skin colour, nationality, or personal situation, has opportunity to be saved and healed, not by good works or deeds, or any religious act, but through faith.
This man bound by infirmity and lay thirty eight years paralysed, hopelessly trying at every opportunity to crawl into the pool, but putting hope in man, failed time after time. But in just a few moments in Jesus presence was healed by His authority and supernatural powers.
My beloved, today, because of the Holy Spirit in us, that same authority and power is in us believers to “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
Matthew 10:8 NKJV
Yes my beloved, even the demons are subject to us in Jesus name (LUKE 10:17).
“Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:1-5 NKJV
Can you imagine laying there for thirty eight years hoping someone would put you in the pool; you can't help feeling for this man. But Jesus simply said, "Get up and walk!" He could of said, "how awful, you poor man," but from the start Jesus seemed a little sarcastic. He said, “Do you want to be healed?” Of course he wanted to be healed, but the man feeling sorry for himself replied, “I haven't got anyone to put me in the pool." Sadly, he put is hope in man and the things of this world, and after 38 years of struggling to get any help to get in, he constantly failed.
He had lost all hope and didn’t hear correctly to even answer Jesus’ question.
His answer should have been yes and amen.
Jesus is calling out to many bound people today, but they’re not listening. They continue to look at men like their pastor or others to put them in the pool and fix their lives, but it’s not going to happen.
My beloved, listen to what the Lord is saying, and answer Him, “yes and amen.”
God gives all of us opportunity after opportunity, to fix our problems, to do good and better ourselves, to grow in Christ. But the truth is, so many of us can't be bothered. We put our trust in things of this world like people, money and abilities.
Many are so wrapped up in their own little world of self pity that they do nothing to build their relationship with Jesus and remain distant from Him. Their lives and problems don't change. They go round and round the same round about year after year and remain in the same place trying to do the same thing over and over, living in disappointment and sorrow.
So people, Get up and walk! Be a doer, don't sit back waiting for someone to fix your lives; take responsibility for yourselves and do your part-cooperate with God. Pray and listen to God, and do what is useful and right. Put into practise everything you have learned from God.
My brethren, what is the point of attending church every sunday if you’re not going to participate and remain stagnant.
You shall remain paralysed until you pick up your mat and walk.
It is time for change; time to get serious with God and take charge of your own life-to grow in Christ. It is time to submit to God and get off the roundabout of despair; time to get onto the road of peace, joy, and contentment.
James said, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
James 4:7-10 NKJV
My beloved, get up and walk with God, do your part-cooperate with Him. Only then will Your impossible situations become possible ( LUKE 18:27; MATHEW 19:26). Only then will God's peace that surpasses all understanding come upon you and guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (PHILIPPIANS 4:6). Only then can you be filled with joy of the LORD that is your strength (NEHEMIAH 8:10).
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 NKJV
Jesus way is the only way to abundant life (JOHN 10:10), for the ways of the world are at best temporary. Jesus way brings with it peace, joy, and contentment in the chaos of this temporary world and is eternal.
He is the truth, the only real truth in this dark world; He is the truth that makes us free like the man suffering from infirmity (JOHN 8:32).
He is the life, the resurrection life that justifies our eternal future, and He said, “No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Don’t be a static Christian like you are paralysed, but rather, pick up your mat and walk with Jesus.
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
