Anyone Who Believes In Me May Come And Drink! For The Scriptures Declare Rivers Of Living Water Will Flow From His Heart

JOHN 7:37-38
“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Jesus words, spoken on the last and great day of the feast when everyone was on fire for Christ, “if anyone thirst, let him come to Me and drink,” alluded to the theme of Scripture that talks about the Messiah’s life giving blessings (ISAIAH 12:2-3; 44:3-4; 58:11). Jesus uses the term “living waters” here to refer the Holy Spirit and in 4:10 to indicate eternal life. The two go together, for the Holy Spirit is our guarantee of eternal life. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

Wherever the Spirit is received and accepted He gives eternal life. This is the Spirit of God promised by the Messiah Himself. Jesus said, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

When you receive the Holy Spirit, your eternal future is sealed 1 CORINTHIANS 1:22), He will help and teach you all things and bring remembrance to all Jesus said (JOHN 14:26). Paul tells us, “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

The Holy Spirit gives His people not just the desire to do His will, but He empowers them to do it, and out of their hearts flow “rivers of living waters”. Furthermore, as they become compelled to share the Good News and reach out to those in need with the truth of the gospels, many submit to the Lord and their lives change; addictions leave along with anxiety, depression, and all kinds of sickness, and is replaced with the peace of God that surpasses all understanding and guards their hearts and minds through Christ (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”
