We all have our own ideas and plans, but so often those ideas and plans clash with what God has planned for us.
David’s prayer is an example for us to follow.
We cannot serve God by chasing our own ideas and plans unless they are inline with God’s plans.
A prayer for guidance is self-cantered if we are not prepared to allow God to redirect our lives according to His plans and purposes, and we can expect life to become in the very least uncomfortable.
The devil is very quick to give you ideas that take you off from God’s paths, filling your hearts with promises of blessings and success that seem good, but fool you into going the wrong direction.
To go in any direction other than God’s is sin and will lead to disaster.
All sin opens the door to the devil and his evil spirits and demons. Once in, they have the ability to manipulate one’s thoughts and emotions to deceive and control from within one’s very soul (one’s mind, will, and emotions).
These unclean spirits and demons are very real and are very happy to make your body their home. Furthermore, they can enter through the sin of our ancestors and hold many people in captivity before they are even born with false beliefs, fear, depression, and curses. They bring about both physical and mental health issues, dependancy, and so much more.
They are like squatters that have entered an empty house, and need to be evicted by the eternal judge Jesus Christ.
People’s lives go round and round the same roundabout of poverty, despair, and broken relationships like they are cursed.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
James 4:7-8 NKJV
That is say, repent of the sins that let them in, verbally rebuke the devils and command they leave, and they shall flee from you.
But having expelled such demons, be sure to fill the rooms of the body with God’s furnishings that come from His Word, and presence.
Jesus said, ”“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”“
Matthew 12:43-45 NKJV
Psalm 143 was a desperate plea from David to be delivered from the evil one, to be set free and get of the roundabout of despair and to change his life to live according to God’s plans and purposes.
There comes a time in life when we have to make that decision; it’s God’s way or my way.
You cannot do both; double mindedness does not work.
Don’t be like Jonah, he tried to go in the opposite direction to what God sent him.
He, after facing the waves of the storm that God brought upon him, found himself in the belly of a giant fish for three days and three nights (JONAH 1:1-17) and after all that, being spat out on a beach, only to be told, “go where he was told in the first place (JONAH 3:1-3).”
My beloved, if it takes a giant fish to humble one’s heart, God will place him there.
Ask God to teach you to do His will, and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Make this prayer of David your prayer and make way for God to change your life; to get you off the roundabout of despair.
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, And in Your righteousness. Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no one living is righteous. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in darkness, Like those who have long been dead. Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart within me is distressed. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands. I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah Answer me speedily, O Lord; My spirit fails! Do not hide Your face from me, Lest I be like those who go down into the pit. Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You. Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; In You I take shelter. Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. Revive me, O Lord, for Your name’s sake! For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Your mercy cut off my enemies, And destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant.“

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”
