You Are My Defender, My Place Of Safety In Times Of Trouble

Thank You Lord, that You are a place of safety and a source of unfailing love; you are the One that we can depend upon today, tomorrow, and forever; You are our Saviour, our future. Amen

PSALM 59:16-17
“But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.”

David throughout this psalm describes in grim detail the behaviour of his enemies.
He was very aware that king Soul had sent a squad to track him down to kill him.
He conveys his own feelings of dread with the desperation and despair that he saw in the lives of those who wanted to harm him. Yet he arose each morning with a joyful heart singing praises to God, fully trusting in Him; quite the opposite of his enemies, who would return to the city each evening frustrated by their failure after a long fruitless day in search for David.
How delightful and encouraging it is for us today, to read about God’s role in David’s life as his defence and his refuge in the days of his troubles.
We believers need to learn as David had learned, to turn negative circumstances into reminders of God’s faithfulness, His mercy, and His never ending love for us, that even in the midst of dire circumstance, we can remain joyful and full of peace that comes from God. Peace that surpasses all understanding and shall guard our hearts and minds through Christ (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).
Regardless to the circumstance, God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them (ROMANS 8:28).
I encourage you, that your impossible situation is possible with God (MATHEW 19:26; LUKE 18:27).
So however you got into that impossible situation, even if it was through sin, give it to God in repentance and learn from it; trust God, He is merciful and faithful, and you can stand upon His promises.
He is faithful and true and His ways are perfect; His ways takes into account not just your immediate needs, but your long term future, and His ways work, even when it doesn’t look or feel like it.
His way is always the best possible way for you. Therefore, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit who is your guide and help in your walk with Christ (JOHN 14:15-18).
Circumstance can make you uncomfortable, but your not alone; God has already gone before you to prepare the way, and He is right next to you, going through it all with you (DEUTERONOMY 31:8).
The truth is, whatever the circumstance, you already have victory through Christ who is your strength
(1 CORINTHIANS 15:57).
However, psalm 59 is more than an encouragement in our physical battles, it is a psalm of deliverance from our spiritual enemies that continue to oppress and attempt to manipulate our minds, will, and emotions. They attack our emotions that we believe their lies and fall into sin as they whisper sinful ways forward in our circumstance. They use anger, fear, disappointment, and such things as these to confuse and control us to send us the wrong way. Furthermore, when one caves to sin, he opens the doors that let those devils in and become demonised.
We can see that in David’s day he was physically persecuted, but we must understand that today our battles are not just with people, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Therefore, speak this psalm over yourselves in battle and for protection against not just people and the things of this physical world , but also against our real enemies, Satan and his army of unclean spirit and demons, for they are very real and are the source of much of your troubles and conflicts today.
Psalm 59 is a path of freedom and victory to us believers and the assured judgment of the wicked.
“Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; Defend me from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, And save me from bloodthirsty men. For look, they lie in wait for my life; The mighty gather against me, Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord. They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine. Awake to help me, and behold! You therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah At evening they return, They growl like a dog, And go all around the city. Indeed, they belch with their mouth; Swords are in their lips; For they say, “Who hears?” But You, O Lord, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision. I will wait for You, O You his Strength; For God is my defense. My God of mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies. Do not slay them, lest my people forget; Scatter them by Your power, And bring them down, O Lord our shield. For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride, And for the cursing and lying which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them, That they may not be; And let them know that God rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth.
