PROVERBS 4:20-27
“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.
”Proverbs 4:20-24 NKJV

Solomon tells us to guard our hearts above all, being sure to concentrate on godly desires that will keep us on the right path.
But our heart-our feelings of love and desire, dictates to a great extent how we live because we always find time to do what we enjoy.
We believers must put boundaries on our desires, that we don’t go after everything our flesh sees and craves, but rather remain focused on the leading of the Holy Spirit (see GALATIANS 5: 16-26).
My brethren, we must remain focused, looking straight ahead, with our minds fixed on our God given goals, making sure that we are not side tracked on detours that distract, take us in the wrong direction, or involve in anything that may lead to sin.
This section demands consistency of heart and purpose, honesty, steadfast righteousness, and a right goal in walk of life.
My beloved, we believers must stand out as different. Paul tells “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”
Philippians 2:14-16 NKJV
If we are to call ourselves children of God, then surely we must act like children of God every day and every moment, not just on Sunday’s in church.
My brothers and sisters in Christ, if you are truly “born again”, your old sinful self must be “dead”. Repentance is more than saying sorry; it is a heart felt decision to turn away from sin toward God and His plans and purposes.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.”
Romans 6:1-6 NKJV
Therefore, “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.”
Proverbs 4:20-27 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
