Take Every Thought Captive

PHILIPPIANS 4:8-9
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

What we put or allow into our minds determines what comes out in our words, thoughts, and actions.
Paul encourages us to fix our minds on things that are true and noble, things that are just, things that are pure, things that are lovely, and things that are of good report.
In today’s world poisons are pouring out of our media; propaganda, inappropriate jokes, pornography, false teachings, and many, many lies that corrupt our hearts and minds with filth and fear that bring about wrong attitudes, actions, and even anxiety/ depression.
Furthermore, the devil is never far away to add fuel to those negative and inappropriate thoughts; it’s like adding fuel to the fire.
Sin if allowed, grows in strength, but at the same time, conditions our minds that such practices become acceptable and normal in this world, and thus, drags many people away from God.
The things that Paul tells us to focus on, shall not corrupt anyone’s mind, but rather draw one closer to God and bring peace.
Do you have problems with impure or inappropriate thoughts and daydreams? Do you struggle with anxiety?
Examine what you are taking into your mind through the media, books, conversations, internet, and movies. Replace these harmful inputs with wholesome materials. Above all, read God's Word and pray regularly. Ask God to help you focus your mind on what is good and pure. Don't allow inappropriate thoughts and fantasies to give a foothold to the devil.
It's not enough to simply read or hear, or even know God's Word well, unless we put into practice what we heard and learned from it.
How easy it is to listen to a sermon and then just forget what the preacher said, or read the Bible and not think about how to put it into practice and live God's way; or discuss and study with others a passage as to what it means, and then not live out the revelation.
Exposure to God's Word is not enough, it must lead us into knowledge, understanding, revelation, and obedience with God.
Therefore my beloved, take every thought captive and bring them to the obedience of Christ (2 CORINTHIANS 10:5).
It is then you can be sure that the God of peace shall be with you; His peace that surpasses all understanding shall guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (PHILIPPIANS 4:7).
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
