Let Your Conversation Be Gracious & Attractive
Let Your Words Be Wisely Seasoned
COLOSSIANS 4:6
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

My brethren, yesterday’s message told us to think before we speak; to be swift to hear and slow to speak. But we do need to talk to others in our daily lives to tell them about Christ; to lift and encourage our brothers and sisters in Christ, to have good fellowship and when necessary, to bring loving discipline.
But what we say must edify Gods people (EPHESIANS 4:29).
Therefore, in every situation, we must be gracious in everything we say.
No matter how much sense our message makes, we will have little or no good effect if we are not courteous. Indeed, without grace, even when we are right, we may well be adding fuel to a very unhealthy fire.
My brethren, we all want to be respected, but we must respect others and earn their respect if we want them to listen to what we have to say.
Our tongue is tool; with it we can bring both good and evil. “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
James 3:4-12 NKJV
My beloved, we cannot tame the tongue in our own strength, but if we ask God, He is faithful to give us the right words at the right time. He will give us grace.
What we say will have lasting effect, and we can’t unsay even one word.
Therefore, be wise, make sure the fire your tongue kindles is holy fire.
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
