PROVERBS 10:19-20
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.
”Proverbs 10:19-20 NKJV

The words we speak are very powerful; indeed, they can bring about a great deal of good and evil.
What we speak is either a blessing or a curse; life and death are in the power of the tongue (PROVERBS 18:21).
“Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”
James 3:5-8 NKJV
We have to be wise how we choose our words, just as they can do much good, they can also do serious damage.
Once an offensive word is spoken, though we can say sorry, we cannot unsay a single word; the damage is done, and can and is so often unrepairable.
“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
James 3:10-12 NKJV
My beloved, discipline your tongue; if you have nothing nice to say, keep your mouth shut.
Don’t allow yourself to get involved in those conversations that quickly lead to gossip, boasting, or exaggeration and lies; and in every conversation, be slow to speak and quick to listen. Always think before you speak.
Man can control many wild animals, but sadly cannot control his own tongue; we all need God’s help with that.
Ask God for His wisdom in all you say, and ask Him to search your heart. For “”The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”
Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV
One’s deceitful heart is fixed on satisfying the flesh and can lead you into sin and will often justify sin and lies. “Its just a little white lie to keep the peace or to stop someone worrying”; “everyone is doing it”; “God told me to do it”. No, God does not instruct sin nor is there such a thing as a little white lie. There is no place for sin and lies in Gods kingdom however good the intention; a lie is a lie however big or small and leads to death and destruction.
God will never lead someone into sin or justify it. “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”
James 1:13-15 NKJV
My brethren, “The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.”
Proverbs 10:21 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
