V
All things were made through Christ, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it (JOHN 1:3-5).
Jesus is the light that reveals all truth, and the darkness cannot either comprehend it or overcome it.
However small a light, it always shines in darkness-the darkness of evil can never overcome it.
Christ is God (PSALM 100:3). He is the creator of life, and His life brings light to all mankind. And in His light we see ourselves as we really are, sinners in need of a Saviour.
Jesus said, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).
When we choose to follow Christ, the true light, the only way to our Father in heaven, we can avoid walking blindly in sin, He illuminates a path for us (PSALM 119:105) to follow that we can see how to live and removes the darkness of sin from our lives.
Jesus was speaking in the Treasury, the part of the Temple where offerings were placed (8:20), and where candles burned, symbolising the pillar of fire that led Israel through the wilderness (EXODUS 13:21-22).
It was in this context that Jesus called Himself the light of the world.
The pillar of fire represented God’s presence, His protection, and His guidance. In the same way, Christ brings God’s presence, protection, and guidance into our lives today through the Holy Spirit in us (JOHN 14:15-18).
He is the light of the world for all who choose to follow Him.
Just as a soldier follows his captain, so we should follow Christ. He is our commander and chief, the only way to salvation.
More than we accept the advice of a trusted counsellor, so we should follow in obedience Jesus’ commands in Scripture, and more than we must follow the laws of our land, we should must in obedience the laws of the Kingdom of Heaven.
As children of God we must be seen as different, living in the light without nothing to hide, (transparent) being seen to be living righteously, as loving, forgiving, graceful, kind people, doing good deeds and helping the needy. For it is by doing good, living correct in God’s high standards that the light we receive from Christ shines from us like stars, illuminating all truth and leading many to righteousness (DANIEL 12:3).
My brethren, if you have nothing to hide, you shall happily stand in the light transparent and true, for transparency brings peace.
We can confess our sins or try to keep them hidden in the darkness; but truly I tell you, nothing can hide from the light of Christ. No amount of darkness can either comprehend or overcome it.
My beloved, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
I John 1:5-10 NKJV
We believers often see sin in others, we are good at it and so quick to share it with our undisciplined tongues. But rather than point the finger at others, we must look deeply at ourselves, confess, and move on in the righteousness of Christ.
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Colossians 3:12-17 NKJV
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
