PROVERBS 5:15-23
“Drink water from your own cistern, And running water from your own well. Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own, And not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, And be embraced in the arms of a seductress? For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, And He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin. He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

V
"Drink water from your own well" is a picture of faithfulness in marriage. It means enjoy the spouse God has given you. Furthermore, it is picture of our relationship with Christ; for we are His body of people, the “bride” of Christ and cannot serve two masters, ”“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.“
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
Water is precious in desert lands, and a well is a families most precious possession.
In Old Testament times, it was a crime to steal water from someone else's well, just as it was a crime to have sexual relations with another person's spouse.
In both cases, the offender endangers the health and security of his whole family, just as when a member of Christ body falls into sin, that person endangers the whole body.
Many marriages in today’s world picture the broken church; they come together once a week, but their hearts are not in it.
The truth is, if it’s not the fold ministry of Christ (EPHESIANS 4:11), it’s not Christ church, but rather the immoral woman, man’s church.
If it’s not Christ church, whose well does one drink from?
Jesus said, ”Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”“
John 4:13-14 NKJV
Therefore my beloved, as Paul warned the Corinths, He warns us today. “O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open. Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”“
II Corinthians 6:11-18 NKJV
These verses urges couples to look only to Christ and each other for life-long satisfaction and companionship, putting Christ above all, and making Him the foundation of all our relationships.
At times like church, if one’s heart isn’t in it, marriage can become dull, and many people stray from their spouse to seek excitement and pleasures elsewhere. But God designed marriage and sanctified it, and only with this covenant relationship can we find real love and fulfillment.
Therefore, don’t allow God's best for you be wasted on the illusion of greener pastures else where.
Instead, work at your marriage, choose to keep your relationship exciting, rejoice with your spouse as you give yourselves to God and each other.
God intended marriage to be exciting and satisfying, it was never His intention that marriage become boring, lifeless, and dull.
Intimacy is a God given gift to married couples for mutual enjoyment. Real happiness comes when we decide to find pleasure in Christ and the spouse God has given us, and to commit ourselves to meeting his or her needs.
Paul put it like this; “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.”
I Corinthians 7:3-4 NKJV
Once married your spouse as does Christ over the whole body, has God given authority over your body; it is not yours to withhold nor to disperse anywhere else. Therefore, Paul continued, “Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment.”
I Corinthians 7:5-6 NKJV
In the same way, we God’s people must not deprive Christ; we must work at building our relationship with Him every day through prayer, praise, and worship, ”not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.“
Hebrews 10:25 NKJV
In these verses Paul emphasis the importance of intimacy in marriage and with Christ.
It is the devil’s purpose to steal, and to kill, and to destroy (JOHN 10:10) your marriage, your life, and your future.
His plan is to destroy your relationship with Christ, your spouse, and bring division into your relationships and the church.
Marriage is a three way covenant with God, your spouse, and yourself; don’t allow the devil in to destroy what God has joined together (MATHEW 19:6).
Whilst Paul emphasis the importance of intimacy in marriage, there is no excuse for selfishness or abuse. God’s love is selfless and considerate, and not demanding (1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8).
My brothers and sisters in Christ, keep Jesus at the centre of your marriage; make Him the foundation on which you stand; He came to give you life, and that you may have it more abundantly (JOHN 10:10).
Finally, sexual relations is about marriage and has no place in a single person’s life. Paul said, “But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”
I Corinthians 7:8-9 NKJV
When a committed believer indulges in sexual relations outside of marriage, he or she join their lives with another outside of their relationship with God and are adulterous to Christ. But through marriage, the two become one flesh and one in relationship with Christ (MARK 10:6-8).
These words are not to condemn believers indulging in sexual relationships outside of marriage, but rather to convict them to repent and change. The answer is simple, get married asap.
Therefore, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.“
Colossians 3:18-25 NKJV
My beloved, remain faithful to your spouse as to Christ.
”Drink water from your own cistern, And running water from your own well. Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own, And not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth.
