MATHEW 7:24-27
”“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”“

To build on “solid rock,” means not only hearing God, studying and learning Scripture, but also responding to Him and all that one learns. It means to put one’s dependency in Christ Jesus.
Jesus said, ”“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.“
Matthew 6:25-34 NKJV
Only by putting into practice everything one learns from God, can he weather the storms that the devil will throw at him.
Practicing obedience and repentance becomes the solid foundation to weather the storms of life and defeat the enemies plans.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.“
James 4:7-10 NKJV
The two lives Jesus spoke about at the end of the Sermon on the Mount have much in common.
They both hear Jesus’ teachings, and they both experienced the same set of challenges in life.
The different outcomes was not caused by ignorance, but rather complacency, by one ignoring what Jesus said and carrying on in the same old.
James told us, “when we face troubles, not if (JAMES 1:2),” so we will most certainly face the storms of life.
But if you are to remain standing at the end of the fiercest of storms, which will come, your faith must be deep rooted on solid ground, that you can stand on God’s promises, knowing and believing He is in control, and that He loves you and is for you.
James said, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing (JAMES 2:2-4).
Only through your trials and challenges can God do His good work in you that you shall become perfected, complete, and needing nothing. And I am certain, that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns (PHILIPPIANS 1:6).
All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
