MATHEW 6:24-34
“”No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
”Matthew 6:24-34 NKJ
VJesus contrasted heavenly values with earthly values when He explained that our loyalty should be to those things that do not fade, for they cannot be stolen, or corrode
.Those are the things of heaven. Jesus said, ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
”Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV
We should not be fascinated with our possessions, or allow them to possess us. We either store our treasures in God and belong to Him, or we store our treasures in this world where possessions have become more important than God
.Jesus tells us not to worry about our everyday needs because God through His Word promises to supply all things. We don’t even need to ask because He knows your needs more than you and promises to provide when we “first seek His Kingdom and righteousness.
”Worry doesn't change your situation, but it steals your joy, your peace, and disrupts your productivity. Negativity and self-pity affects the way one thinks and even the way one treats others; it reduces one’s ability to trust God, and can lead to anxiety /depression, which is very damaging to one’s health
.It certainly won't add a single moment to your life, but for many has opened the door lto unclean spirits such as fear and suicide
.Furthermore, negativity rubs off on others
.A negative word is nothing less than witchcraft that brings about curses (JAMES 3:10) and can draw people into their own negativity and self-pity
.Fear is the opposite of faith like hot is the opposite of cold and is in itself sin, for it is impossible to please God without it (HEBREWS 11:16). Furthermore, fear Is the food of much of depression, which Is why when one is diagnosed with depression, it is usually written as anxiety/ depression
.The doctor will tell you it’s impossible to cure depression, but with counselling and pills it can be kept under control. Surely, if it needs controlling, it is living in you. The truth is, fear comes in because we invite it in, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
”II Timothy 1:7 NKJV
But the Good News is, we believers have authority over all unclean spirits and demons including fear (LUKE 10:17), and therefore we can cast them out (JAMES 4:7)
.Their is a major difference between worry and genuine concern; worry immobilizes, but concern moves one into action
.“To seek the Kingdom of God above all else" means to put God first in your life, to fill your thoughts with His desires to become more like Jesus, to serve, worship, and obey Him in everything; that is what we believers are called to do
.There is a wonderful promise here; if we “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”, all your needs will be added to you. Not some of them, all of them. Not necessarily your wants, cravings, or fantasies, but everything you need and what is good for you according to God’s plans and purposes in your life
.What is most important to you
?People, money, status, objects, goals, and other desires, all compete for priority and can easily become most important to you if you don't actively choose to make God your number one in every area your life
.My brethren, we cannot serve two masters. Whilst we must live in this world, we cannot involve in the disgusting things in it; furthermore, whilst we need to use the things of this world such as cars, we cannot allow the things of this world master over us by making them idols; that would be agreeing with and serving the devil, the god of this world
.Therefore, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”
”II Corinthians 6:14-18 NKJV
Planning for tomorrow is wise, it's time well spent, but worrying about tomorrow is time wasted
.Careful planning and prayer is thinking ahead about goals, steps, and schedules; and trusting God which will close the doors to the worry or fear it produces
.Furthermore, trust in God brings restoration to your God given spirit of love, power, and a sound mind, and will restore your strength which comes from joy in the Lord (NEHEMIAH 8:10)
.Paul give us good advice, saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
”Philippians 4:4-7 NKJ
VAll glory to God forever and ever! Amen
